Jackson says that a trade might be best for Carmelo, Knicks

Anthony "would be better off somewhere else", according to Knicks president Phil Jackson, ESPN reports.

Jackson, the Knicks team president, addressed reporters Friday, two days after the team completed its fourth straight losing season.

NY went 31-51, falling well short of expectations with its third consecutive 50-loss season.

"We've not been able to win with [Anthony] on the court at this time", Jackson said following exit interviews with players.

The 32-year-old superstar said earlier this week that while he'd "love" to remain on the Knicks roster, he wants a commitment to winning immediately.

Rolling Stone settles defamation case with UVa administrator
This is most likely the end of a long saga after Rolling Stone published the bombshell story "A Rape On Campus" in 2014. The magazine's story said that a female student identified only as "Jackie" was gang raped at a university fraternity.

Anthony told Jackson a year ago that he wanted to stay with the Knicks. He also granted Anthony a no-trade clause in that contract, but said he doesn't regret it.

"Just communicate with me and be up-front with me, " Anthony said of his future with the Knicks. NY has missed the playoffs for four straight seasons and has lost at least 50 games in the past three, all under Jackson. So Phil, you might want to step out of that glass house before you pick up those rocks. During the season, it was reported that Anthony would listen to trade offers, but perhaps only to big-market teams with a shot at contending.

Jackson said he met with Anthony on Thursday. That's what he does. "I told him this is not a situation where we're going to dump you or do anything like that, but we're looking to improve ourselves however we can".

- Jackson said Derrick Rose, whose first season with the Knicks ended with him needing surgery to fix torn knee cartilage, told him he wants to return as a free agent "to have a chance to redeem himself as a player". "That's very important for us and that's the direction we have to go". Which I like that attitude.
