"My trip has been all about deepening more engaged collaboration between Australia and India in the fields of economics, sports, health, science and education", he said.

"Both India and Australia recognise the central value of education and innovation in the prosperity of our societies", he said.

Both leaders agreed that Australia's resources and experience could support India's ambitious economic reform path and that India's strong growth offered opportunities for Australian investment looking for long term stable returns.

On the engagement with ASEAN, the Prime Ministers noted the growing strategic importance of South-East Asia and "recognised ongoing cooperation in other regional bodies such as the ASEAN Regional Forum, and ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM+), and the Asia Europe Meeting".
