European Union expands sanctions against North Korea

The European Council on Thursday expanded its sanctions against North Korea including prohibition on investments in the country following its recent missile tests.

The European Union on Thursday imposed additional sanctions on North Korea over nuclear and ballistic missile tests which it said threatened worldwide security.

The Choson Sinbo described the atmosphere at the rink as "reminiscent of the June 15 unification period", a reference to a declaration signed by South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in 2000.

South Korea's "taegukgi" flag waved gently in the breeze, just a few metres from the North's emblem.

Tensions have escalated over North Korean moves to accelerate its weapons development.

Pyongyang is on a quest to develop a long-range missile capable of hitting the USA mainland with a nuclear warhead, and has so far staged five nuclear tests, two of them a year ago.

North Korea is dipping its toe into situation in Syria.

It said it imposed the new sanctions because North Korea's actions "violate multiple United Nations resolutions and constitute a grave threat to global peace and security in the region and beyond".

North Korea has threatened pre-emptive strikes on US and allied military installations in response to what it calls political, military and economic pressure and provocations - a sign of growing concern in Pyongyang over Washington's shows of strength.

"The successive USA administrations have perpetrated strikes at those countries which do not have nukes only, styling themselves a superpower and the same is true of the Trump administration", the Korean Central News Agency said in a post on its English-language site.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said both sides agreed that the North Korean threat had reached a "very serious stage".

A defiant North Korea has fired yet another missile.

A USA official said Wednesday's missile test ended in failure when the rocket spun out of control and plunged into the ocean.

North Korea has long claimed that the United States is preparing to conduct similar precision strikes against its territory or even launch an all-out invasion.

Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said Japan will continue to implement its policy of bilateral talks and sanctions against North Korea, Efe news reported.

The drones can detect objects more than 6 miles away and when two units take turns in the mission, the precise movements of North Korea troops can be monitored for 24 hours, Seoul said. Now, Pyongyang sees China's market-opening reforms as a corrupting force, and Sinophobia remains commonplace among the public. All this makes it more likely that President Trump will have to make good on his promise to "solve North Korea".
