George, Pacers put brakes on four-game skid

George, Pacers put brakes on four-game skid

Lance Stephenson is officially back in IN as a member of the Pacers and it took him just one game to be as Lance Stephenson-y as ever. He concluded it strangely, but not exactly atypical of his polarizing career.

Stephenson apologized, saying he got caught up in the moment of the last play.

Four players are averaging at least 12.0 points per game for Toronto, they are: DeMar DeRozan (27.3), Kyle Lowry (22.8), Serge Ibaka (15.2) and Jonas Valanciunas (12.0).

It's easy to get worked up over the poor performance, but considering Dwane Casey's club had won eight of nine heading into the contest there's no reason to push the panic button. Tonight's events would be worth remembering if so.

LaMarcus Aldridge added 15 points, including the tying basket with 1.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter. This game was over when Stephenson chose to get a couple of points with a late layup rather than dribble out the clock - breaking an unwritten rule and angering P.J. I didn't mean any harm. But more than his numbers, he has given this team exactly what they have needed: Energy.

It probably all could have ended there, but Lance took to Instagram today to point out a little bit of hypocrisy in the Raptors stance on the matter.

Miami and Chicago hold tiebreaker advantages over the Pacers. That will be followed by a home game on Friday against another contender for one of the remaining spots, Miami, before finishing on the road against NY and Cleveland.

Stephenson scored all of his 12 points in the second half. "I've been heartened by our effort in the last three games". It ended up costing them dearly as IN started connecting on 3-pointers and turned their 19-point deficit into an 18-point victory. For Pacers fans, Fox Sports Midwest will carry the game in the in area.

Focus, instead, on the other Pacers, on Jeff Teague's primal screams - and flexes (!) - on Myles Turner's galloping leaps with fist pumps, on the players on the bench standing throughout the second half, cheering on their teammates.

"They dictated what they wanted to do, how they wanted to do it and got the 3-ball going", Casey said. The Pacers had a narrow 77-75 lead after the collision of star power played out. A 9-0 Pacers run early in the quarter sealed the victory, but the Pacers stayed in attack mode and pulled away. "He's just playing", Pacers coach Nate McMillan said.

DeRozan scored 20 of Toronto's 24 third-quarter points and had 25 at that point.

The Pacers next host Milwaukee on Thursday. The Toronto Raptors are on the end of a back to back, but they haven't lost two straight often this season and could use a win to better position its playoff seed.
