David Moyes: 'Sunderland must beat Leicester City'

David Moyes: 'Sunderland must beat Leicester City'

Watford's back-to-back wins against Arsenal and Burnley earlier this year must feel like a very distant memory to the Vicarage Road faithful: since those victories, Watford have played out four winless games, losing in three, and they must try to rediscover their form for this home game against a struggling Sunderland side.

Sunderland's defeat on Saturday was their 19th of the season and they are now eight points off safety in the Premier League, looking destined for Championship football next season, with their only really hope being Jermain Defoe.

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several fine saves to deny M'Baye Niang and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The Black Cats have won just one of their last 12 Premier League matches and are now without a goal in five following Saturday's 1-0 loss at the hands of Watford.

The northeast side had kept the game goalless for almost an hour when Uruguay defender Britos broke the deadlock in the 59th minute.

That defeat leaves them rock-bottom of the table and seven points adrift of safety with only nine matches remaining, and Moyes acknowledged that his side may need to pick up all three points against in-form Leicester as a result.

Connor Wickham and Pape Souare are still out due to their long-term injuries, while Loic Remy can't play against his parent club. The victory came in this fixture last season, when goals from Bakary Sako and Joel Ward cancelled out a Radamel Falcao strike.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has warned his side can not afford to underestimate bottom club Sunderland when they come to Vicarage Road.

"We needed to take something from the game, and I thought overall we deserved to do that".

A first win in five eased any fears Watford might have had of being dragged into trouble - not that their manager Walter Mazzarri was anxious.

"What I can tell the fans is that we hope to do better, of course, in the next 10 games". When the loose ball was lobbed in again from the left, Britos rose highest at the far post to head it over the line from close range.

"The only thing is we should have scored at least one more goal", Mazzarri told Sky Sports.
