Twitter eases 140-character limit in replies

Twitter eases 140-character limit in replies

Starting on Thursday, Twitter no longer counts handle replies in your 140 character limit.

One of the biggest social networks of the modern age, there have been various reports over the years as to how Twitter is "dying a slow death".

Having only 140 characters to squeeze in our thoughts and humor has sometimes proved to be hard, so users have resorted to tweet threads or "tweet canoes" to fully express what they mean or describe an observation. The newest "shortcut" they're giving is removing the usernames of people when you reply to a tweet, giving you more space to actually say what you want to say and not be bothered by the long thread of usernames.

Twitter has also made it possible for users to reply to themselves and adjusted the app so that photos, gifs and videos added to tweets do not lower the character count from 140.

That's a common refrain for Twitter, which makes product changes at a positively glacial pace-especially compared to rival social platforms like Facebook.

Many users took to Twitter to voice their displeasure and questioned the usefulness of the change. However, users have already voiced their concerns about the change saying it confuses conversations and could make it more hard to tackle abuse on the site.

She previously considered using a surrogate for a third child after doctors told her another pregnancy might be risky . Speaking at the time on the American show, Kim's 61-year-old momager, Kris Jenner, said: "You could bleed to death".

Believe me, counting the username has been one of the Achilles heels when it came to Twitter's character count rules.

This move is part of Twitter's attempt to allow users to "express even more in 140 characters", and has been forthcoming since May.

"The updates we're making today are based on feedback from all of you as well as research and experimentation", the company said in a statement.

Back in May 2016, Twitter bowed to popular demands when it officially announced that media attachments and @names in replies would no longer count toward your 140 allowed characters.

Twitter has become defined by its 140 character limit, but in a bid to modernise and keep up with some new competitors on the scene, it is trying to make it less like entering code and more like a natural messaging service. He added that in the tests performed to check the new features, it was found that people engage more with conversations on Twitter.
