Chance the Rapper donates $1 million to Chicago Public Schools

This comes after he met with IL governor Bruce Rauner to talk about public education and "important issues affecting" the city of Chicago and state of IL.

Chance the Rapper holds a press conference at Wescott Elementary School in Chicago. "While I'm frustrated and disappointed in the governor's inaction, that will not stop me from continuing to do all I can to support Chicago's most valuable resource: it's children.' Chance had previously said that Rauner gave him 'a lot of vague answers", none of which were clarified in the brief phonecall they had over the weekend. "Governor Rauner still won't commit to giving Chicago's kids a chance without caveats or ultimatums".

The state, the lawsuit says, treats students in Chicago's public schools, "who are predominantly African American and Hispanic, as second-class children, relegated to the back of the State's education funding school bus". For every $100,000 the organization receives, SocialWorks will donate $10,000 to a school of its choice.

"This isn't about politics, this isn't about posturing", he said. Everybody and their momma knows about what's going on in Chicago, it's constantly talked about.

"I want them to fund CPS", he said. "But we're about to enhance the conversation", the rapper said.

On Monday the Chicago-based artist announced that he would donate $1 million to Chicago Public Schools (CPS).

Craig Shakespeare waits for Leicester job verdict after Foxes see off Hull
Leicester relied so heavily on team morale last season and evidently that was deteriorating as the weeks of the season went by. Gary Neville doesn't believe Liverpool's back four is good enough after their humiliation at Leicester City on Monday night.

Despite this history, Chance said Monday his success at the Grammy awards was what he needed, what he "traded in" to have his first meeting with the governor.

Chance's announcement came as the governor's staff was looking for its own solution to the $215 million deficit. CPS spokeswoman Emily Bittner sad the plan was "racially discriminatory" because it "actually demands that Chicago students do more to get the same funding that every other student in the state of IL is entitled to receive".

While Senate lawmakers are already weighing the pension changes, they are tied to a larger effort to pass sweeping legislation to end the state's unprecedented budget impasse.

Just over a week later, the Chicago Board of Education and five families of Chicago students brought a lawsuit against the state of IL, alleging it prioritizes state funding for schools outside Chicago based on race. He added that current budget issues will force schools to close 13 days early this year, leaving children unsupervised and in danger.

Westcott's principal, Monique Dockery, said that cut means the school will have to drop a variety of after school programs, math and reading tutoring and professional development.
