Been there, done that: A short history of NASA's moon missions

Tech billionaire Elon Musk, founder of the pioneering space transport company SpaceX, has announced a mission to fly two people to the moon next year in what would be a landmark moment for space travel.

SpaceX has announced that they have been approached by two private individuals for a moon mission late next year. Then it hopes to launch another Crew Dragon mission, this time with NASA astronauts aboard, in the second quarter of 2018.

Musk said 'This presents an opportunity for humans to return to deep space for the first time in 45 years.

Musk did not reveal the identities of the two wealth passengers, but he said they know one another and are serious about the mission.

For its inaugural voyage, SpaceX will use its Falcon Heavy rocket and the Crew Dragon spacecraft, neither of which have been used yet. "We will work closely with SpaceX to ensure it safely meets the contractual obligations to return the launch of astronauts to USA soil and continue to successfully deliver supplies to the International Space Station". SpaceX is now contracted to perform an average of four Crew Dragon missions to the ISS per year, three carrying cargo and one carrying crew.

According to CNN, he said "Next year is going to be a big year for carrying people to the space station and hopefully beyond".
