Amazon Web Services outage leads to massive Internet issues

The outage has also affected numerous almost 150,000 websites and apps hosted by AWS, such as Quora, file sharing on Slack, Giphy and Business Insider. Amazon Web Services is scrambling to recover from an issue at its Virginia server facility that is causing its S3 storage to fail.

In case you are a resident of the East Coast of the United States trying to access websites hosted on Amazon AWS S3, there is high chance that you may run into issues.

We will update as we know more.

IFTTT's status page started reporting problems at 12:47pm ET today and later blamed the outage on Amazon.

AWS stores data that facilitates a large number of popular sites and services.

Wolff: Rules of engagement between Bottas and Hamilton will remain
It's definitely going to feel unusual , being down in the garage and seeing someone else in the auto next to me. We're looking forward to seeing how the changes impact the racing when the season kicks off.

In a statement posted to its AWS page, Amazon acknowledged "increased error rates" and "availability issue" but did not elaborate on the details.

Ironic as it may seem, a service to check if other websites were functional, also went down thanks to the Amazon AWS S3 outage!

Affected sites include Airbnb, Business Insider, Chef, Docker, Expedia, Heroku, Mailchimp, News Corp, Pantheon, Pinterest, Slack, and Trello, as well as parts of AWS' own site, and ironically itsdownrigthnow.com and Down Detector, VentureBeat reports.

A technical glitch in June previous year affected a wide range of AWS-hosted services in New Zealand, from Westpac online banking to Domino's online pizza ordering to Spark's Lightbox streaming video on-demand service.

Simply check #s3outage on Twitter and you'll see some great Tweets from people trying to make lemonade out of some sour "lemons". If you received one of our newsletters and some of the spots and links are broken, this is most certainly a direct effect of the current AWS outage. "App operations are still on lockdown for us-east-1 stacks now, but we'll unlock them as soon as we get confirmation that the incident has been resolved on the AWS side".
