Federal prosecutors question NYC mayor over fundraising

Federal prosecutors question NYC mayor over fundraising

The feds are apparently getting pretty serious about their probe into NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio's potentially crooked relationship with some of his campaign donors.

A spokesman for the mayor did not immediately respond to questions on Friday morning.

The meeting took place at the Midtown Manhattan office of the mayor's attorney.

NBC 4 NY first reported earlier this month that U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office had asked the mayor to come in and answer questions, and that de Blasio agreed, according to sources.

Among those questioning the mayor were about six prosecutors and several Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, including the chief of the Public Corruption Squad.

Mourinho said that Rooney's future was in his own hands in comments at his pre-match press conference that only fuelled the speculation.

De Blasio's criminal defense lawyer, Barry Berke, already had at least one meeting of his own with prosecutors in an attempt to convince them not to press charges, sources told NBC 4.

The mayor is also under investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's office in connection with state senate campaigns he assisted in 2014. But investigators have been poring through finance records from the mayor's 2013 campaign, amid questions about how campaign officials solicited donations from the city's real estate and business sectors.

He used to be on the advisory board of the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York but is now is no longer serving on it.

Federal investigators have been probing whether Indig received favors from the city for his support as part of the probe into de Blasio's fund-raising tactics.
