Judge Gorsuch Has Fairly Clean Record on Cannabis

President Trump's escalating attacks on the judicial branch drew denunciation today from his Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, who told lawmakers that the attacks were "demoralizing" and "disheartening" to the independence of the federal courts.

In response to Trump's travel ban on seven Muslim majority countries and plans for "extreme vetting" of refugees, Farrow said she supports any measures Trump takes to keep the United States, despite the measure leading to protests at airports and courthouses around the country and facing legal challenges from the appeals court.

The New York Times said Gorsuch "privately expressed dismay on Wednesday over Mr. Trump's increasingly aggressive attacks on the judiciary, calling the president's criticism of independent judges "demoralizing" and 'disheartening'".

Ron Bonjean, a spokesman aiding Gorsuch in the confirmation process, confirmed Blumenthal's account of their conversation in an e-mail and said Gorsuch "used the words disheartening and demoralising".

This story is breaking and will be updated.

Donnelly's office said Thursday afternoon that he will not make a decision on whether to vote to confirm Gorsuch until after meeting with him and reviewing his judicial record and his as-yet-unscheduled confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. But Thursday morning, Trump took to Twitter to accuse Blumenthal of "misrepresenting" Gorsuch's sentiments and to resurrect a criticism that the senator had implied at least once that he had served in Vietnam when in fact he had been stateside during the war.

After Chris Cuomo interviewed Blumenthal on CNN's "New Day", Trump tweeted: "Chris Cuomo, in his interview with Sen". But Trump's comments have been different. He asks Democrats to join Republicans in giving swift and perhaps even unanimous approval to his nomination of Judge Gorsuch.

Trump's wall to cost over $21bn, says gov't report
The third phase would cover an unspecified 1,080 miles (1,728 km), essentially sealing off the entire U.S. -Mexico border. Trump has said Congress should fund the wall upfront, but that Mexico will reimburse US taxpayers.

Other senators, including Republican Ben Sasse and Democrat Chuck Schumer, also said Gorsuch made similar comments to them.

"Clearly he wanted this to be seen as a marker of his independence", Schumer wrote, "because his handlers immediately told us, 'You can tell this to the press'".

"President Trump is not threatening a judge, and he's not encouraging any form of lawlessness", Leo said. Referring to U.S. District Judge James Robart as a "so-called judge" wasn't just insulting; it implied that the judge lacked the authority to rule on the legality of Trump's order.

Overall the Senate has rejected a dozen Supreme Court noold Carswell, were rejected.minees, including a George Washington selection, John Rutledge, who was engulfed in a complex political struggle involving the Jay Treaty of 1794. "I get this uncomfortable sense that the president may be trying to lower confidence in judges in anticipation of defying a ruling".

That could mean extending this dispute indefinitely, threatening the independence of the judiciary. And this is a guy who kind of welled up with some energy and he said any attack on any-I think his term to me was "brothers or sisters of the robe"-is an attack on all judges".

I am listening to Vice President Pence speak to the Federalist Society concerning the nomination of Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

"He is free to speak his mind", Spicer said of Trump. Gorsuch's confirmation requires a majority vote of the Senate, where Republicans hold a 52-48 advantage, but under current rules the GOP will need 60 votes to end debate and advance to a confirmation vote.
