Megyn Kelly ditches Fox News Channel, jumps to NBC

Megyn Kelly ditches Fox News Channel, jumps to NBC

"Megyn is an exceptional journalist and news anchor, who has had an extraordinary career" Andrew Lack, chairman of the NBCUniversal News Group, said in a statement.

Thousands of fans on Kelly's official Facebook page called her everything from a "sell-out", to a "traitor", and other things too X-rated to write after learning she's leaving Fox after 12 years.

Megyn Kelly has made a decision to join NBC News, and Fox News says her last day on the air will be Friday. She will also become an important contributor to NBC's breaking news, political and special events coverage.

Megyn Kelly, host of Fox News' The Kelly File, and oft-Trump Twitter target, is moving to NBC where she will take on a plethora of duties. "More to come soon".

Kelly has been a Fox News star for several years, but emerged as a household name when she feuded with President-elect Donald Trump during the 2015-16 GOP primary.

This is a major loss for Fox News, which also saw the departure of Greta Van Susteren in the fall after Fox News chief Roger Ailes left amid allegations of sexual harassment. Sources say Kelly is departing in order to broaden her career and scope of journalism with NBC.

Hosting a daytime show will allow her to spend more time with her children - Edward, 7, Yardley, 5, and Thatcher, 3 - whom she shares with husband Douglas Brunt.

At the time of its publication, neither Kelly, NBC nor Fox News had confirmed the report, though Rutenberg suggests NBC will announce its deal with Kelly "imminently".

Kelly's contract at Fox was not due to expire for another six months. A number of other women also stepped forward with similar stories, indicating a pattern of abuse likely dating back decades.

Now that Kelly is exiting, Fox News faces a nightly void in the crucial 9 p.m. time period.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

In the wake of the subsequent instability, Murdoch empire scions Lachlan and James looked to Kelly for the network's future, promising her a reported $20m annually to re-sign and stay with the company through the transition.

A former lawyer who was raised in upstate New York, Kelly turned to television and got a job in Fox's Washington office.

"Trump slammed Kelly, saying her questions were "ridiculous" and 'off-base'".
