Michael van Gerwen sets record as he reaches World Darts Championship final

Van Gerwen, meanwhile, sent out an emphatic message to his rival by setting a new record World Championship average of 114.05 in his 6-2 rout of Raymond van Barneveld in last night's Semi-Final. I was struggling a bit at the beginning, he put me under pressure but I am a happy man.

Anderson finds himself on the cusp of an unprecedented "threepeat" at Ally Pally as he aims to become the first player since Phil Taylor to claim three consecutive world titles. It's the most important one of the year.

'I have fought so hard for this and now I have a full set of the major trophies, but this is the one that matters most of all'.

"I feel awesome but I did not play my A game".

The Dutchman told Sky Sports: 'I feel absolutely over the moon. Everyone keeps saying you need to win a second one.

Steve Smith Sr. '89 Percent Sure' He'll Retire
Sunday will be a first for quarterback Joe Flacco . "I'd be a fool to say I'm not going to miss it", Smith said . However, Smith has shown he can still be productive and has caught 67 passes for 765 yards with five touchdowns.

The opening three sets all went to a deciding leg with Anderson opening up a 2-1 lead, but the pivotal moment of the match came in set four as Van Gerwen hit double eight with his final dart to get back on level terms.

Van Gerwen's consistently heavy scoring proved too much for Anderson as he raced further ahead and closed out the match with an 85 checkout, sealing the title with a bullseye.

But from there it was the defending champion who moved up a gear, taking out 157 to lead 4-3, before winning each leg in the eighth set for 5-3.

"He was trying to give me the trophy", he joked, 'but he's not allowed to do that and he probably won't see another darts match in his life.

MVG subsequently lost momentum with Anderson taking advantage bt he got back on track to take the win.
